Essure is advertised as a non-invasive, permanent birth control device that is supposed to be effective at helping women prevent pregnancy. Implantation of the device takes no more than 10 minutes and requires no anesthesia. But thousands of women have said that the device has caused serious injuries and adverse health reactions. The FDA has also received at least 5,000 complaints about Essure injuries since 2002, and the number keeps growing. This has led to several lawsuits filed against device maker Bayer by women seeking compensation for medical bills, lost quality of life, pain and suffering, and other damages.
If you are one of thousands of women who have been injured after placement of Essure, talk to our dedicated Essure attorney at Annie McAdams PC and find out how you can take legal action. Our product liability litigation law firm is ready to help you seek full and fair compensation for your losses.
Essure devices have a nickel-titanium coating that is known to cause allergic reactions. Since the device’s approval by the FDA in 2002, the agency has reported up to a 2.9% perforation rate of the fallopian tubes or the uterus. Although the device has not been recalled yet, the FDA has ordered a black box warning to be added to the product to warn of potential complications.
In some cases, a hysterectomy may be required if extreme reactions or damage to tissues result. Hysterectomies can dramatically reduce a woman’s quality of life and cause additional complications.
